Conservatory Styles

Conservatories offer a year-round connection to the outdoors. When choosing a new conservatory or replacing an old one, consider which shape and style best fit your needs and suit your home.

Ultraframe offers a range of conservatory styles across the following three options, so you can choose the one that best fits your home. Each design offers the same performance and can be customised for a modern or traditional appearance.

  • Lean-to.
  • Victorian.
  • Edwardian / Georgian.
  • Gable End.
  • P-Shaped / L-Shaped.
  • T-Shaped.
Glevum Conservatories Classic Conservatory Style Performance Extension

Classic Conservatory:

The Classic Conservatory uses advanced roof and glazing technology and comes with a range of optional extras. You can choose either a traditional or modern style, and link your garden to your home with full-height glazing and your choice of bifold, sliding, or French doors.

Performance Conservatory:

The Performance Conservatory uses super-insulated columns that are five times more efficient than regular brick columns. You get a stylish design while saving energy.

A decorative cornice gives the outside an elegant look. Inside, plastered columns and an insulated ceiling pelmet make the space feel cosy and more like a real room. The super-insulated columns add extra comfort.

With its stylish design and excellent insulation, you can use this conservatory comfortably all year.

Conservatory Extension:

A Conservatory Extension lets in plenty of natural light and has enough insulation to fit in smoothly with your home. It’s a great choice for an open-plan living space.

These modern spaces remain just as comfortable as the rest of your home thanks to their solid walls, high-performance glass, and insulated internal pelmet.

Bi-fold doors let you open your Conservatory Extension to the outdoors, so your home and garden feel connected. The built-in structural goalpost supports wide door openings without extra cost. You can also choose French or patio doors if you like.

Can a conservatory be used all year round?

You can design a conservatory for year-round use, but how comfortable it feels will depend on the details. Things like glazing, roof style, ventilation, shading, insulation, and heating all matter.

If you want to use your conservatory in every season, talk about options like better glazing, roof insulation, vents, blinds, and the right heating from the beginning. A space meant just for summer won’t work as well as one planned for daily use.

What are some practical conservatory ideas that can be used in daily life?

The best conservatory ideas start with thinking about how you want the space to enhance your home. Here are some popular ways people use conservatories:

  • A relaxed garden lounge
  • A bright dining room
  • A home office with natural light
  • A children’s playroom
  • A reading room
  • A hobby or craft space
  • A kitchen seating area
  • A plant-filled indoor garden
  • A flexible entertaining space

To give your conservatory a polished look, pick out the flooring, lighting, furniture, and window glazing while you’re still planning, not after everything else is done.

What should I consider before picking a conservatory design?

Before deciding on a design, consider the following:

  • Purpose: Will it be used for dining, relaxing, working, entertaining, or family life?
  • Size: How much internal space do you need, and how much garden can you spare?
  • Orientation: A south-facing room may need more shading, while a north-facing room may need careful planning for warmth and light.
  • Privacy: Think about neighbouring windows, garden boundaries, and door placement.
  • Access: Consider how the conservatory connects to the existing house and garden.
  • Style: Choose a design that complements your property rather than competing with it.
  • Budget: Include the structure, roof, doors, flooring, heating, lighting, blinds, and finishing touches.

The best conservatory designs are planned around real use, not just appearance.

What should I consider when deciding between different conservatory designs?

Think first about how you want to use the room. Consider what you need it for, how often you’ll spend time there, and what would make it feel comfortable. Once you know its purpose, choosing a conservatory style becomes much simpler.

A simple guide is:

  • Choose lean-to for simplicity, smaller spaces, and modern practicality.
  • Choose Edwardian for maximum usable floor space and a balanced style.
  • Choose Victorian for classic character and decorative appeal.
  • Choose gable-end for height, light, and a more impressive feel.
  • Choose orangery for a substantial, extension-like room.
  • Choose P-shaped or T-shaped for larger homes that need multiple zones.

Lean-to Conservatory Style

Lean-to

One of the most popular styles on Conservatory. Simple yet well loved design is characterised by its rectangular shape, which ‘leans to’ your property, usually with a slanted roof. It is incredibly flexible, and it is increasingly popular among traditional and modern homeowners alike.

Victorian Conservatory Style

Victorian

Rooted in the Victorian era, this faceted design is distinguished by its beautiful ornate roof and rounded appearance. it suits all styles of house and home from a period property to a new build. When people think of a conservatory it is the Victorian style that comes to most people’s minds.

Edwardian Conservatory Style

Edwardian

From the exterior, conservatories in the Edwardian style are elegant and desirable. Not only does the elevated sides roof allow for the impression of space and look totally ageless, but there are numerous flourishes, often very subtle, which add to the conservatory’s attractive design.

Georgian Conservatory Style

Georgian

Features a flat front and a square or rectangular symmetrical shape. A Georgian style conservatory typically has a high, sloping roof style that gives a spectacular vaulted effect and allows light to flood in.

Gable End Conservatory Style

Gable-End

Square or rectangular in style, gives you maximum space to plan your interior. The gable front adds style and also maximises light coming into the room and the height gives the feeling of space.

P-Shaped Conservatory Style

P-Shaped / L-Shaped

The P-shape conservatory is a style that's ideal for larger, detached properties, combining a lean-to conservatory with a Victorian conservatory, which can be either three-faceted or five-faceted.

T-Shaped Conservatory Style

T-Shaped

A very versatile style, allowing you to create two distinct living spaces within the one room. With T-shape conservatories, the central part projects into the garden, which exaggerates the sense of bringing the garden into the home. The central projection on a T-shape conservatory style can also create a ‘porch effect’.

Conservatory Solid Roof Upgrades Ultraroof

Roofs

Whether you want a combined glazed and solid roof, a tiled roof with full rectangle glass panels or a modern lantern roof. A Glevum Conservatory roof upgrade can help to enhance any style of property, from the traditional to the modern, while removing the issue of a Conservatory being too hot in summer and too cold in winter.

Ultraframe Garden Rooms from Glevum

Garden Rooms

The two distinct Garden Room styles can be completely tailored with full-length windows, contemporary insulated side panels and large integrated fixed glass rooflights to create a space that is unique to you. The perfect way to create a quiet area disconnected from the house, ideal for a home gym or garden office spaces.
